SIOUX CITY | Ginger Simpson, 67, of Sioux City died Saturday, July 2, 2016, at a Sioux City hospital.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Sioux City, with the Rev. Michael Erpelding officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, with family present 6 to 8 p.m. and a rosary service at 6:30 p.m., followed by a vigil service at 7 p.m., all at Meyer Brothers Morningside Chapel. Ginger, the daughter of August and Mary (Kersting) Leuenhagen, was born May 3, 1949, in Sioux City. She graduated from Sergeant Bluff-Luton High School.

Ginger married Randy Essig and to this union one son, Clint, was born.

On Feb. 3, 1984, she was united in marriage to Larry Simpson in Elk Point, S.D. Ginger worked at IBP for 20 years and then co-owned Action Towing and the Battery Shack with her husband, Larry. Larry passed away on Dec. 29, 1993.

Ginger worked as a dispatcher for the South Sioux City Police Department and later worked for First Financial Bank. After retiring, she worked for the Sioux City School District at Unity Elementary serving lunch.

Ginger loved nature, her flowers, riding motorcycles and her Corvette. Above all, she loved her family. She welcomed anyone into her home and enjoyed caring for her twin granddaughters. She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Sioux City.

Ginger is survived by her son, Clint (Mary) Essig of Sioux City; two granddaughters, Shelby Essig and Nicole Essig; three stepgrandchildren, Christopher Polly, Erika Hartwig and Lance Polly; one great-stepgrandson, Asher Hartwig; six siblings, Carol (Bob) Balsey of Cincinnati, Ohio, Charlene Clarke of La Habra, Calif., Bill Leuenhagen of Boise, Idaho, Jim (Sue) Leuenhagen of Strasburg, Colo., Randy (Mary Jo) Leuenhagen of Sergeant Bluff, and Susan (Ivan) Roost of Homer, Neb.; and several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Larry Simpson; daughter-in-law, Char Essig; and one sister, Mary Ann Neal.
