Died- At the residence of his son, John Wightman, of German City, October 23, 1898, LeMoine Wightman, aged 81 years, 5 months and 9 days.

Thus briefly records the removal from our midst of a man who was most highly esteemed by all. LeMoine Wightman was born in the state of New York May 14, 1817. The early part of his life was spent in the state of New York and it was there that he was married to his late wife whose maiden name was Betsy R. Whitcome, between 50 and 60 years ago. They moved to Wisconsin and subsequently to Woodbury County, Iowa, purchasing a farm a little east of Smithland. This was their home for over 32 years.

From here his wife was buried about eight years ago. For a period of over 50 years the deceased lived a quiet, unobtrusive Christian life and was a consistent loyal member of the Methodist Episcopal Church. Failing in health resulting from his advanced years, compelled him to leave the farm in February last. Since that time he has resided with his son at German City.

Eleven children were born as the result of the marriage, six of whom are living, three in Iowa and three in the state of Washington. A short service was conducted at the house by the resident M.E. Minister, S.G. Jones, assisted by Rev. F.A. Maisch and then the procession went to the M.E. Church at Smithland where the service was held, conducted by the Rev. S.G. Jones and G. S. Clift resident minister. An appropriate sermon was delivered, the text being Eccles. 7:1 and his remains were interred in the Wellington Cemetery by the side of his wife, on Tuesday October 25, 1898.
