Died; At the home of her son near Mapleton, Wednesday, October 19, 1898, of heart disease, Mrs. Melvina Jackson.

The funeral services were conducted at the home and the remains buried in the Wellington Cemetery by the side of her husband who died thirteen years ago. She had heart trouble for a number of years but death came very unexpected as she had been feeling quite well and ate a hearty supper the night before her death. Mrs. Jackson came here with her husband, Benjamin Jackson from Wisconsin about the year 1866 and has since resided in this vicinity in this and Monona County and for the past few years has made her home with her son, Chas. Jackson. She was among the earliest pioneers here and will be remembered by all the old settlers. She leaves six children to mourn her sad departure.
