SIOUX CITY | Joseph S. Stanwick, 87, of Sioux City passed away Thursday, June 30, 2016, at a local hospital following a brief illness.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Immaculate Conception Church, with the Rev. Armand Bertrand officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Morningside Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Home.

Joe was born on June 3, 1929, in Sioux City, to Anthony and Sophie Stanwick. He graduated from East High School in 1948 and attended NBT College in Sioux City prior to being drafted into the U.S. Army in December 1950 and was honorably discharged in April 1957.

Joe was united in marriage to JoAnne Christianson on April 24, 1954. He worked for Hooker Glass and Paint and was a paint foreman for Sioux City Community Schools. He later worked at Wilmes Hardware, where he was known as the “Paint Man," retiring in 2015.

He was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church as well as the American Legion. Joe loved and was very proud of his family and treated everyone as a friend. He enjoyed shopping for food and feeding everyone including the birds. He also enjoyed spending time with his family, his garden, his dog Snickers, and every season, especially Christmas. Joe will always be remembered as starting off every day with a smile.

Those left to honor his memory include his wife, JoAnne of Sioux City; children, Cheryl (John) Michalsky of Sergeant Bluff, and Doug (Judy) Stanwick of Dakota Dunes; grandchildren, Jennifer (Josh) Klimek of Yankton, S.D., Briget (Jarrod) Solomon of Sergeant Bluff, Bret (Alicia) Michalsky of Sioux City; great‐grandchildren, Alexis Klimek, Joey Solomon and Ella Michalsky; sister‐in‐law, Sharon (Ray) Gosch of Charter Oak; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents; nine brothers and sisters; and a granddaughter, Jessica Jo Stanwick.
