3 July 2016SIOUX CITY | Doris “Dory” Ann Pearson, 94, formerly of Sioux City, died on June 28, 2016, at the home of her daughter in Johnston, Iowa.
The family is planning a celebration of life gathering to be held at a future date in Sioux City at a future date. Doris and Earl’s ashes will be buried at the Iowa Veteran’s Memorial Cemetery in Van Meter, Iowa. Online condolences may be left at www.ilescares.
Doris was born in Sioux City on Sept. 15, 1921, and was the daughter of Stanley H. Rogers and his wife, Viola (Richie). Doris was a graduate of East High School. On Sept. 15, 1940, she married A. Earl Pearson from Hawarden, Iowa. After they were married, he served in the Army during World War II. She formerly lived in Sioux City, Mission Viejo, Calif., as well as many other locations in the U.S. during her life.
Mrs. Pearson was a homemaker, but also did some volunteering with disabled children during her life. She was an excellent bowler (886 series) and played golf at an early age with her father and also her husband during her life. Doris had a wonderful sense of humor and she and her husband had a fun-filled home where they enjoyed welcoming friends and family. Doris loved to collect sayings and advice and shared these with others. She attended Grace Church in Des Moines and Lutheran Church of Hope in Johnston while she lived in Des Moines, and had a love for God and strong faith in Jesus Christ.
Doris and Earl were married 65 years and had two daughters, Earlene (Bill) Davis of Johnston, Iowa, and Victoria (Brett) Laymance of Ojai, Calif. Her grandchildren are Reed Davis of Los Angeles, Calif., Julie (Lance) Hood of DeSoto, Iowa, and Trevor and Marshall Laymance. Doris also has three adored great-grandchildren, Liv, Mya and Luke Hood. Doris’ brother, Robert (Patricia) Rogers still resides in Sioux City.
She was preceded in death by her husband in 2005; and her sister, Phyllis Joy in 2015.
Memorial donations may be made in her name to Unity Point Health Foundation/Hospice or Operation Smile.
