SOUTH SIOUX CITY | Norbert H. Kranz, 91, of South Sioux City passed away Monday, June 20, 2016, at a Sioux City hospital.

Services will be 10 a.m. Thursday at Meyer Brothers Morningside Chapel, with the Rev. David Fulton officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery, with military rites offered by the U.S. Army. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. today, with family present at 6 p.m. and a vigil service at 7 p.m., at the funeral home. Online condolences may be offered to the family at www.meyerbroschapels.com.

Norbert was born on July 8, 1924, in Elrod, S.D., to Carl and Rosalia (Sturm) Kranz. Following graduation, Norbert married Wilma (Biddy) Gordon on Oct. 14, 1944, in Kranzburg, S.D. (a community founded by Norbert's ancestors). He served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II from June 1945 until his honorable discharge in December 1946 after serving overseas in Panama.

Norbert worked with the Cargill Corporation for more than 37 years, managing grain elevators in numerous communities, including Grover, Lennox, Ravinia, Avon, Hitchcock, and Yankton, S.D., and Cummings, Iowa. Norbert retired in 1989. After retiring, he worked at H & W Elevator (as needed) in Dakota City.

He was a member of the V.F.W., and St. Michael's Catholic Church in South Sioux City. Norbert also enjoyed holding the office of fire chief in Ravinia, S.D., along with being the Civil Defense director. He enjoyed square dancing, ballroom dancing, reading, participating in social media through Facebook, emailing, fishing, and playing cards.

Norbert is survived by his daughters, Kathy Armour of Dakota City, Judy Ebel of Omaha, and Carly Schinzing and her husband, Doug of South Sioux City; brother, Herbert "Harv" G. (Freda) Kranz of Canby, Minn.; sister-in-law, Betty Kranz of Clark, S.D.; special friend, Kada McCann of Yankton; and grandchildren, Stacy (Mike) Newcomb and their children, Alex and Madie, Bradly (Lisa) Armour and their children, Rachel and Braden, Sherry (A.J.) Armour, Steven Ebel, Cory Ebel, Matthew Schinzing, and Allison (Michael) Langel and their children, Braeleigh and Kinsley.

Norbert was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Wilma in 1991; daughter, Marlayne "Molly" Raymond; brothers, Charles Kranz and Lavern Kranz; and sons-in-law, Billy Bob Ebel and Phillip "Phil" Armour.
