Roger L. Allen, 65, of Salix, Iowa passed away Wednesday, April 6, 2016 at his residence surrounded by his family after a valiant battle with cancer.

Memorial services will be 11:00 A.M. Monday, April 11, 2016 at the Salix Community United Methodist Church in Salix, Iowa with Pastor Catie Newman, officiating. Visitation will be 5:00 to 8:00 P.M. Sunday, April 10, 2016 at the church with a prayer service at 7:00 P.M. Arrangements are under the direction of Rush Family Care Service, Onawa, Iowa.

Roger Lee Allen was born August 22, 1950 in Sioux City, Iowa the son of Melvin and Lola (Lander) Allen. He grew up in the Sloan, Iowa area and graduated from Westwood High School with the class of 1968.

Roger and Lynn Hollibaugh were united in marriage on July 19, 1969 in Sloan, Iowa. One son was born to this union, Brian Allen.

Roger worked for various farmers in the area before beginning his career in production at Gelita near Sergeant Bluff, Iowa. Roger worked at Gelita from 1974 until his retirement in 2013.

Roger's dearest love was his family. He especially enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. One of his favorite past times was reading westerns. Roger also loved going for rides on his motorcycle. Roger and Lynn would take long rides in the countryside and when Roger went off the road Lynn would ask what are you doing and Roger would respond, "I'm just lookin". He always enjoyed visiting with his friends about their adventures and they would see who could tell the biggest lie. He was at all times trying to learn about anything, and had a very inquisitive nature. He was a kind man who will be missed by all those who knew him.

Roger was a volunteer with the Salix Fire Department for twenty-five years.

Survivors include his loving wife of forty-six years, Lynn Allen of Salix, IA; one son, Brian (Laura) Allen of Wilmington, NC; two granddaughters, Chloe Allen and Sara Allen both of Wilmington, NC; two brothers, Dennis (Peg) Allen of Georgetown, TX and Bill (Chris) Allen of Sergeant Bluff, IA; one sister, Kay (special friend, Dale) Morriston of Sioux City, IA; two brothers-in-law, Terry (Becky) Hollibaugh of Billings, MT and John Thomas of Littleton, CO; one sister-in-law, Cindy (Craig) Smith of Loveland, CO; and several nieces and nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Melvin and Lola (Lander) Allen; one sister, Vickie Allen; two sisters-in-law, Sharon Kay Hollibaugh and Vicki Thomas; parents-in-law, Darrell (Frances) Hollibaugh; and two nephews, Matt and Pat Allen.
