Willerd Arthur Sawin, 79, of Anthon died Saturday, February 7, 1998, at Correctionville, Iowa.

Memorial services were held at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Anthon, with the Rev. David Hogan officiating. Burial followed in Peiro Cemetery in Grant Township, rural Anthon under direction of Armstrong Funeral Home

Mr. Sawin was born May 29, 1918, near Anthon, the son of Arthur and Laura (Eckert) Sawin. He graduated from Oto (Iowa) High School in 1935. He married Helen Gothier on February 26, 1938, in Sioux City. Along with farming, he was working for the ASCS Office and Federal Crop Insurance. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church.

Survivors include his wife; a son, Gary of Oto; four daughters, Mary Ellen (Mrs. Ron Houghtaling) of Anthon, Kathleen Baltzell of Des Moines, Gloria Sawin of Santa Fe, New Mexico, and Valerie (Mrs. Kim Preston) of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; ten grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a granddaughter, a great-grandson and a son-in-law.
