Charles G. Barcelou, 90, of Moville passed away Thursday, July 16, 2009, at a Sioux City hospital. Graveside services were held in Bethel-Piero Cemetery, rural Anthon, Iowa, with the Rev. Sheryl Ashley officiating.

Charles was born on December 5, 1918, in Ft. Lewis, Washington, the son of Charles and Eva (Hunter) Barcelou. He was raised in Carlton, Washington. On December 10, 1941, he enlisted in the U.S. Army and served with the Army Air Corps, stationed in Africa and later Europe. On September 29, 1945, Charles married Guinevere Eckert in San Francisco, California. They returned to Carlton, where he drove logging trucks. During the late 1940s, the family moved to Oto, Iowa, where he farmed and later they moved to Sioux City where he started a business driving truck for local hauling. In 1965, they moved to Moville. For many years, he drove a semi for Hirschbach Trucking.

Charles enjoyed raising horses and would ride at many of the local area rodeos. He was a member of the Oto American Legion Henry V. McKenna Post 651.

Survivors include his wife, Guinevere; two sons, Harold Barcelou of Washington and Gilbert "Ray" Barcelou of Moville; two daughters, Mrs. Stephen (Jeanne) Porter of Dallas, Texas, and Mrs. Dennis (Linda) Ramthun of Manson, Iowa; 12 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; his sister, Gladys, many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his son, Willard "Billy" Barcelou; three grandchildren; three sisters; and an infant brother.
