HORNICK, Iowa | Joan M. Eyer, 69, of Hornick passed away Friday, April 1, 2016, at a local hospital.

Memorial services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at St. Mark Lutheran Church. Private inurnment will be at Memorial Park Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Morningside Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Home.

Joan was born on May 15, 1946, in Sioux City to Jay and Bernita (Harden) Sturges. She was raised in the Leeds area and graduated from Leeds High School in 1964.

She was united in marriage to Keith I. Eyer on May 2, 1964, at Luverne, Minn. They lived in Sioux City for a number of years before moving to rural Hornick.

She was a member of St. Mark Lutheran Church and enjoyed gardening, quilting, traveling to Las Vegas, and reading. Joan enjoyed spending time with her family and friends.

Those left to honor her memory include her children, Kathleen (Kevin) Backus, Keith Eyer Jr., Timothy Bleasdell, Mike (Angela) Eyer, all of Sioux City, Jennifer (Bryan) Paulsen of Kingsley, Iowa, Victoria Eyer of South Sioux City, Eric Eyer of Kingsley, Iowa, Tony Eyer, Elizabeth Eyer and Marc Eyer, all of Hornick, Iowa, Bethany Eyer and Kasch Eyer, both of Sioux City; 19 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; a brother, Paul (Mary) of Sturges, Iowa; and several nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Keith; sisters, Bernita Johnson and Virginia Bleasdell; and brothers, Jay Arthur and Tom Sturges.
