SIOUX CITY | Joyce M. Nelson, 83, of Sioux City passed away on Saturday, April 23, 2016, at Holy Spirit Retirement Home.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, April 30, at St. Boniface Catholic Church, 703 W. Fifth St., Sioux City, with the Rev. Michael Erpelding officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. Friday, with family present 6 to 8 p.m., with a rosary at 6:30 p.m., followed by a vigil service at 7 p.m., at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel, 3220 Stone Park Blvd., Sioux City. Joyce was born on April 1, 1933, to Ferd and Helen (Poss) Osterholt in Ashton, Iowa. Joyce worked for a few years in the real estate business. She spent the majority of her working career as a cook. She took pride in the food she prepared for others. Joyce cooked for Tale & Ale, Town Club and for the longest time at the Horizon Restaurant.

Joyce was married to Robert J. Nelson in 1949. To this union, four children were born. Joyce later befriended a special friend, Claude Finley for over 25 years. He preceded her in death.

She was a member of St. Boniface Catholic Church where she volunteered her time to many different organizations. She was also a member of the Senior Center. Joyce enjoyed traveling, bowling, playing Scrabble and card games.

She is survived by her two sons, Dale L. Nelson and Kenneth L. Nelson and daughter, Rita H. Nelson, all of Sioux City; two grandchildren, Misty M. Nelson of Des Monies, Iowa, and Jason Nelson of Spearfish, S.D.; a great-grandson, Alucard Nelson of Spearfish; sister, Grace Hawkins of Sioux City; two brothers, Howard "Whitey" (Betty) Osterholt of Jackson, Neb., and Edward (Connie) Osterholt of Sioux City; and a special family friend, Collen Baker of Sioux City.

She was preceded in death by her parents; daughter, Terri Nelson; four brothers, Stanley, Roger, Alan and Glenn Osterholt; and a sister, Barb Ricker.
