SIOUX CITY | Robert "Rob" Selwyn, 53, of Sioux City passed away unexpectedly Wednesday, March 30, 2016, at his home.

Memorial services will be 1 p.m. Saturday at Nelson-Berger Northside Chapel. Visitation will be noon until service time Saturday at the funeral home. Online condolences may be given at www.meyerbroschapels.com.

Robert Norman, the son of Kenneth and Sharon (Sherman) Selwyn, was born on Nov. 11, 1962, in Yankton, S.D. He grew up in the Midwest and served in the U.S. Navy. He then worked as a laborer throughout Minnesota and Iowa.

Rob had a giving heart and would help anyone in need or give them a place to stay. He was a volunteer at the St. Thomas Food Bank and at Four Directions Native Resource Center. He enjoyed listening to music and playing board games with family and friends, especially Monopoly. He also enjoyed pets, particularly his cockatiels, Betty and Baby, and his cat, Salem. Rob cherished the time spent with his family. He was very proud of his upbringing in the Lakota Yankton Sioux Tribe.

Robert is survived by his mother, Sharon Sherman of Sioux City; his sister, Nancy Plendl and husband, Brad of Sioux City; his nephew and nieces, Brandon, Kayla, Kristina and Brittani; grandniece and grandnephews, Abbigail, Gage, Gunnar and Vincent; and by many close friends from Red's Pierce Street Pub.

He was preceded in death by his father
