SIOUX CITY | Opal R. Davis, 89, of Monroe, Ohio, formerly of Sioux City, died Tuesday, Dec. 22, 2015, at Mount Pleasant Assisted Living in Monroe.

Services will be held at a later date. Morningside Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Homes is in charge of arrangements.

Opal was born March 6, 1926, in Lodgepole, Neb., the daughter of LeRoy and Zeva (Walker) Wolfe. She graduated from Lodgepole High School in 1943. Opal continued her education at the University of Nebraska at Kearney, graduating with a bachelor’s degree in 1958.

She married Harold Davis on Aug. 10, 1959, in Chappell, Neb. Together they lived in Kearney from 1952 until 1973, when they moved to Sioux City. Harold died in August 2009. Over the years, Opal worked as an educator.

She had been an active member of Grace United Methodist Church. She was also a member of the Iowa Retired School Personnel, Sioux City Retired Teachers and Alpha Delta Kappa.

Survivors include a daughter, Susan R Davis (Robert Jones) of Liberty Township, Ohio; a son, Steve (Deb) Davis of Rock Springs, Wyo.; five grandchildren, Emily (Mat) Hotho, Ashley (Bradley) Gearen, Leah (Donald) Henderson, Shawn (Kate Tucker) Davis and Erica (Shaun) Uriarte; six great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Opal was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Harold; a sister, Thelma Carrick; and a brother, Warren Wolfe.
