SIOUX CITY | Byron J. Brower, 89, of Punta Gorda, Fla., formerly of Sioux City, passed away on Feb. 29, 2016.

A memorial service to celebrate Byron's life will be 2 p.m. Saturday, March 19, at First United Methodist Church in Punta Gorda. Byron, the son of John and Gladys Brower, was born June 22, 1926, in Lake View, Iowa. Byron served in the U.S. Army during World War II. Byron was the co-founder and president of Brower Construction Company, and Asphalt Paving Contractors for 40 years.

He was a member of the Punta Gorda Elks, Combat Infantrymen's Association Company A, Fort Myers, the Second Indianhead Division Association and First United Methodist Church in Punta Gorda. Byron loved being on the water, boating, and working in his garden. He was a loving husband and a proud father and grandfather.

Byron will be greatly missed by his wife of 62 years, Muriel; daughters, Kristine Cheever and Amy Gleason; brothers, James, Lowell and Robert; grandchildren, Jessica, Joseph, Paul, Megan, Blake, Rachel and Esther; and great-grandchildren, Colton and Chase.

He was preceded in death by his daughter, Rebecca Nyberg.
