Robert F. Stolze, 84, of Sioux City died Sunday, Jan. 27, 2002, at Harvest Westside Nursing and Rehab Center.

Graveside services will be at a later date in Memorial Park Cemetery. The body was cremated. There will be no visitation. Arrangements are under the direction of Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel.

Mr. Stolze was born Nov. 17, 1917, in Sioux City, the son of Harry and Ida (Turpening) Stolze. He was a life long Sioux City resident and was raised in Riverside. He graduate from Central High School. He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II.

He was an aircraft mechanic with Graham Flying Service for 25 years. His hobbies included photography, airplanes and race cars. He attended the Indy 500 for 40 years in a row.

He was a member of the National Sprint Car Hall of Fame and Museum, Antique Auto Racing Association Inc., Sioux City Museum and Historical Association, Antique Airplane Association of Blakesburg, Iowa and the Sioux City Air Museum.

Survivors include three brothers, Kenneth Stolze of Sioux Falls, S.D., Roger Stolze and his wife, Lauri, and Craig Stolze and his wife, Charlotte, all of California; and a sister, Ruth Martin of California.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Lowell Stolze; and a sister, Joyce Monroe.
