21 December 2000Gerhardt A. "Gay" Paulsrud, 96, of Sioux City died Wednesday, Dec. 20, 2000, at a Sioux City hospital.
Memorial services will be held at a later date at First Lutheran Church in Sioux City, with the Rev. Allen Wicks officiating. Burial will be in Mount Olive Cemetery, Randall, Iowa.
Mr. Paulsrud was born Aug. 4, 1904, in Randall, the son of the Rev. and Mrs. G.O. Paulsrud. He attended a country school in Randall and graduated from The Jewell Academy. He graduated from St. Olaf College in Northfield, Minn., in 1926.
He married Lyla A. Pederson of Westbrook, Minn., on July 19, 1927. The next 10 years, he spent in teaching and school administration work. The couple moved to Sioux City in 1946. From 1937 until his retirement in 1968, he was general agent for Northwestern National Life Insurance Co. in northwest Iowa.
He was a member of First Lutheran Church, where he served as chairman of the board of trustees and on the site and building committees for the new church on Cheyenne Blvd. He was a charter member of the first Toastmasters Club and a member of the Lions Club. He enjoyed stained glass work.
Survivors include his wife; a daughter and her husband, Ann and Dr. Earl Mumford of Sioux City; two sons and their wives, Dr. David and Joan of Sioux City and Dr. John and Ramona of Zionsville, Ind.; 10 grandchildren, David, John, Joe, Karen and Kristin Mumford, Steven, Eric, Ann and Bryan Paulsrud and Susan Welch; and 10 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Jenina; and a brother, Jordan.
