Scotty was born on Dec. 10, 1921, in Moorhead, Iowa, the son of Albert and Dagmar "Mary" (Johnson) Scott.
He married Elinor June Fear on Christmas Eve in 1942. She preceded him in death on New Year’s Eve in 2007. Scotty spent most of his working life driving truck for Russell Miller and then for Peavey Co. He also worked at Walensky Lumber for a few years.
When he was 48 years old, he achieved his lifelong dream of becoming a pilot and then an instructor. Perhaps his greatest memory of his flying days was flying an open cockpit plane through passes from California to Iowa. He said he had to fly so low that he could have reached out and grabbed some pine needles to bring back with him.
Scotty was a lifelong member of St. James United Methodist Church, where he taught Sunday School and made wooden toys for children. He was also a great cribbage player and taught it to his children and grandchildren. It was a rite of passage in his family to beat him at the game.
He is survived by three children, Roger Scott (Betty) of Leesburg, Fla., Russell Scott of Thousand Oaks, Calif., and the Rev. Peggy McClain (Dean McClain Sr.) of Bennet, Neb.; a sister, Edna Mae Greeny of Washta, Iowa; six grandchildren, Michelle Lessmann of Sioux City, Michelle McClain of San Antonio, Texas, Michael Scott of Fleetwood, N.C., Melanie Glasrud of Sioux Falls, S.D., Matthew Scott of Mooresville, N.C., and Dean McClain, Jr. of Lincoln, Neb.; and 10 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; his daughter, Mary Ann; his brothers, Alvin and Lloyd; and his sisters, MaryJane and Nancy
