16 October 2014SIOUX CITY | Leonard Gale March, 72, of Sioux City passed away Tuesday, Oct. 14, 2014, at a local Sioux City hospital from complications of cancer treatment.
A memorial service will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel, with the Rev. Scott Squires officiating. Burial of his cremains will be at a later date in the Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 10 a.m. until service time Saturday at the funeral home. Online condolences may be sent to www.meyerbroschapels.com.
Leonard was born in Sioux City, on April 21, 1942, the son of Leonard and Dorothy (Skoglund) March. He graduated from Central High School, and then attended USD. Leonard proudly served in the U.S. Army. He was stationed in Germany and served in Vietnam. He was a member of the 1st Infantry Division.
Leonard married Betty Underwood and to this union two sons were born. They later divorced. Len met Becky (Larson) Lundgren in 1982 and they were married on Oct. 23, 1990, in Las Vegas, Nev. Len was the chief estimator for Holtz Construction for 17 years and then for Hughes Steel Erection. Len and his wife owned and operated Siouxland Steel Erection for several years until his retirement in 2007.
Len loved all animals, and stock car racing, and was so proud when his son Scott and brother Gary were on the track. He seldom missed a NASCAR race and loved going to Kansas City Speedway with his son Troy. His vehicles were always spotless. He loved Mustangs and owned several of them over the years. His favorite place was Ixtapa, Mexico, where he and Becky spent many winter vacations with their friends. His biggest enjoyment came from being with his family and loved ones.
Len was very proud to be a 51-year member of the North Riverside Masonic Lodge. He was a Shriner and served as president of the Wrecking Crew in 1997. He participated in many parades driving his red dune buggy and mini monster truck, Big Toe. He attended Crescent Park United Methodist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Becky; two sons, Scott (Buffy), and Troy (Kori); five grandchildren, Trevor and Tanner Seibold, and Dawson, Meagan and Savannah March; one great-grandson, Trenten, all of Sioux City; a brother, Gary (Jan) March of Dakota Dunes; three sisters-in-law, Pat (Richard) Mount, Kathy (Larry) Blair, and Rita (Jim) Sandman; a brother-in-law, Duane (Brandi) Larson, all of Sioux City; many nieces and nephews; and a special friend, Bill W.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and mother and father-in-law, Odin and Emily Larson.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the family in Leonard’s name.
