SIOUX CITY | Earl John Michener, 95, of Sioux City passed away on Monday, Oct. 20, 2014, at a local care facility.

Memorial services will be 7 p.m. Friday at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel. Chaplain Mark Westrich will officiate. Burial will be in Memory Garden Park, Brea, Calif. Visitation will be 6 p.m. until service time Friday at the funeral home. Online condolences may be sent to www.meyerbroschapels.com.

Earl was born on Sept. 1, 1919, in Sioux City, the son of Goerge O. and Laura A. (Taylor) Michener. Earl served in the U.S. Army Air Force during World War II from September 1942 to January 1946.

He married Margrethe Duzik and they farmed in the Lawton, Iowa, area from 1946 to 1949. Earl worked for the Northwestern Railroad in Sioux City and then the family moved to Norwalk, Calif., in 1956. He worked for the Southern Pacific Railroad in Los Angeles until he retired in 1980. He moved back to Sioux City in September 2007 to live with his daughter, Jana.

Earl was an active member of the Siouxland Senior Center and the Senior Center in California. He enjoyed family get togethers, camping and traveling.

Survivors include two daughters, Jana Michener of Sioux City, and Ina Widman of Minnesota; five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Earl was preceded in death by his parents; his son, John Earl Michener; his wife, Margrethe Michener; four brothers, Elza, Gus, Harry and Ernest; and five sisters, Helen Horn, Hazel Goolsly, Dorothy McFarland, Ethel Anderson and Gladys Michener.
