SIOUX CITY | Harry P. BeVer, 97, of Sioux City passed away Sunday, Oct. 19, 2014, at Countryside Senior Living.

Services will be 11 a.m. Friday at Meyer Brothers Morningside Chapel, with the Rev. Dan Lozer officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Condolences may be sent online to www.meyerbroschapels.com.

Mr. BeVer was born on Jan. 10, 1917, in Sioux City, to Henry H. and Myrtle (Hungerford) BeVer. He graduated from Central High School in 1936. He worked at the Sioux City Bowling Alley from 1939 to 1952, except for the 3 1/2 years he served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was stationed in the South Pacific and attained the rank of staff sergeant.

He later worked for Under Writer Adjusting Co. as an insurance adjuster for 22 1/2 years. He then worked for the city of Sioux City for 12 years in the legal department as a claims investigator.

He enjoyed fishing and for many years took trips to Canada to fish. He loved bowling and dancing. He was a 50-year member of the V.F.W. Post 580 and a 50-year member of the Siouxland Claimsman Association.

He is survived by his grandson, Mike Smith of Fort Dodge, Iowa; a great-grandson, Andy Smith of Fort Dodge; and a special friend, Betty Langford of Sioux City.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Phyllis Smith; and two sisters, Lavonne Carlson and Elanor Baugh
