Ann D. Peters, 94, of Sioux City passed away Tuesday, March 11, 2008, at a Sioux City hospital following a brief illness.

Services will be 2 p.m. today at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, with the Rev. Merlin Schrad officiating. Fred Karpuk, deacon and nephew of the deceased, will provide the homily. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel.

The former Ann Dorothy Karpuk was born June 14, 1913, in Sioux City, the daughter of Russian immigrants Paul and Elizabeth (Bernick) Karpuk. She graduated from Cathedral High School in 1931, after attending St. Francis Grade School.

She married Dale Peters in Sioux City in approximately 1934. She worked in the restaurant at the Livestock Exchange. A son, Richard Peters, was born in 1936. The family moved to Eau Claire, Wis. in the late 1940s due to a job transfer for Dale, who worked for many years with Chicago and Northwestern Railroad. Richard became a Naval commander.

The couple enjoyed golfing and the Green Bay Packers. They regularly returned to Sioux City, where they kept their house on South Helen Street, to enjoy spending holidays and time with their relatives. She is a four time champion of the annual KAA 3-Par Tournament and a former KAA Female Athlete of the Year.

Survivors include a grandson, John Peters; a daughter-in-law, Ingeborg Peters of Walnut Creek, Calif.; a brother and his wife, Joseph P. and Mary Ann Karpuk of Sioux City; a sister-in-law, Mickey Karpuk of Collinsville, Okla.; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Dale Peters; her son, Richard D. Peters; her parents; her brothers, Edward and Stanley Karpuk; a sister, Helen Kane; and a sister-in-law, Ilene Karpuk.

Pallbearers will be Daniel Karpuk, Christopher Karpuk, Zach Maxey, Michael Kane, Phillip Karpuk and Theodore Karpuk. Honorary pallbearer will be Joseph P. Karpuk
