Bill L. McConnell, 80, of Sioux City passed away Friday, March 7, 2008, at Countryside Retirement Home after a very brief illness.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel, with the Rev. Randy Rasmussen officiating. Burial will be in Logan Park Cemetery, with military rites conducted. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m., and a 7 p.m. Masonic service conducted by North Riverside Lodge 662, A.F. & A.M. at the funeral home.

Bill was born Sept. 15, 1927 in Sioux City, the son of Harvey J. "Mack" and Helen W. (Scholberg) McConnell. He graduated from Central High School. He served with the U.S. Army Air Force from June of 1946 until July of 1947.

Bill married Louise Woolridge on Dec. 31, 1946 in Fairfield-Suisun, Calif. Bill was a lifelong Sioux City resident. He began his career as a cabinet maker. He later became a superintendent/foreman for Dohrmann Construction Company, specializing in the construction of nursing homes. After his retirement, he continued working as a self-employed carpenter.

He was a lifetime member of Carpenters Union Local 948. He was a 32nd degree Mason, a member of the Abu Bekr Shrine Temple and the Oriental Band. He was a former member of the Sioux City Boat Club and the Soo Bowman Archery Club. Bill enjoyed anything outdoors, especially the water. Being with his family was one of the joys of his life.

Survivors include his wife, Louise; two daughters and their husbands, Faye and Robert Peiffer of Twin Lake, Iowa, and Terry and Joe Landean of Sioux City; two granddaughters, Robyn Vogel and Rebecca Vogel; a sister, Sue Brugett of Bonita Springs, Fla.; and a niece, Cathy Peretzky.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a son-in-law, Denny Vogel; and a brother-in-law, Jerry Brugett.

Pallbearers will be Miles Klosterman, Ken Larson, Dick Miller, Jim Bauer, Arley Suggitt and Frank Curry.

Memorials may be made in Bill's name to the Shrine Transportation Fund or Hospice of Siouxland.
