Jeannine L. "Jean" (Johnson) Cole, 73, of Sioux City passed away Thursday, March 27, 2008, at her residence following a brief illness.

Services will be 10 a.m. Monday at Christy-Smith Morningside Chapel, with Pastor Chuck Wolff of Riverside Lutheran Church officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 3 to 7 p.m. today, with the family present 5 to 7 p.m., at the funeral home. Online condolences may be sent to www.christysmith.com.

Jean was born Feb. 3, 1935, in Sioux City to Frank and Opal (Baker) Johnson. She was baptized in the Catholic church. She grew up, attended Sioux City schools and graduated from Sioux City East High School.

On Jan. 31, 1953, she married Frank D. Cole Jr. in Dakota City. He passed away on Aug. 1, 2001, in Sioux City. She was employed with Johnson Biscuit and Sioux Bee Honey in Sioux City.

Jean enjoyed boating, snowmobiles, racing, dancing, playing the slots and cooking. She was a good-hearted and caring individual. She also enjoyed spending time with family and friends and believed in the open-door policy for family and friends.

Survivors include two sons, Timothy and Tammy Cole of St. Louis, Mo., and Jimmy Cole and Theresa Cleveland of Sioux City; 12 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Jolyene "Jo" Taylor of Wisconsin, and Janise "Jan" Leonard of St. Charles, Mo.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband and a grandchild.
