SIOUX CITY | Harry A. Wanned, 87, of Sioux City passed away Tuesday, Sept. 10, 2013, at a local hospital.

Services will be 10 a.m. Saturday at Nelson-Berger Northside Chapel, with the Rev. Kristine Frank officiating. Interment will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. Friday, with family present at 6 p.m., at the funeral home. Online condolences may be offered to the family at www.meyerbroschapels.com .

Harry was born on March 31, 1926, to Rosa and Walter Wanned, in Pontiac, Mich. The family moved to Sioux City, where Harry was raised. He joined the U.S. Marine Corps and served his country during World War II.

Harry married his lifelong sweetheart, Dorothy Work, in December 1947. They had five children, Joyce, Douglas, Edward, RaMona, and Rose. Harry worked for the city of Sioux City Water Departement for more than 40 years. He retired in 1988.

He spent his time gardening and enjoying his family. Harry was the proud grandfather of three grandchildren, Aja Simpson, Jenni Lee Roose, and Jamison Wanned. He had seven great-grandchildren, JaMya, Coleman, Libertee, Akia, Aja, Phoenix, and Loyal Simpson.

Harry was an honest, hard working man. He believed in helping out his neighbor and he loved his family. On Sept. 10, 2013, the Lord called on Harry to leave this earthly world as we know it and join the forces of the Heavens. Harry has joined the Lord’s Army and he will be missed by many. "Harry, we love you."

Harry was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Dorothy; and son, Edward.
