SIOUX CITY | Esther C. Lindeman Sluyter, 89, of Sioux City passed away on Sept. 26, 2014, at Touchstone Living Center.

Graveside services will be 11 a.m. Monday in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 9:30 a.m. Monday at Morningside Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Home.

Esther was born in Broken Arrow, Okla., to John and Margaret (Voss) Lindeman. She moved to Colorado when she was 13 and later moved to Sioux City in 1947. Esther attended Rocky Ford High School in Colorado and continued her education in arts, photography, golf, and writing at WIT.

She married Emil Sluyter on Feb. 9, 1951, in Sioux City. Esther was employed by Mountain States Bell Telephone, Sears, Zenith Corporation and Walgreens in the camera department.

She was a member of Stephen Ministries and Church of all Nations. Esther became paralyzed in 1978 due to a spinal cord aneurism. She served on the Easter Seals Board and was active in the Sioux City Camera Club, she organized the 500 Club and was an avid bridge and blackjack player who enjoyed gardening at their home in the rural Hinton area.

Survivors include daughters, Janet Skogman of Sioux City, and Karen and (Mike) DeVaney of St. Louis, Mo.; son, Curt Sluyter of Le Mars, Iowa; grandson, Chad (Robyn) Skogman of Portland, Ore.; great-grandchildren, Cooper and Madison; nephew, Greg Moore of Sioux City; nieces, Lori Johns of Sioux City and Cheryl (Cliff) Olson of Arkansas; and a great-niece, Haley Johns of Sioux City.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Emil; and 10 siblings.
