SIOUX CITY | Leonard J. Schoenherr, 70, of Sioux City passed away Wednesday, Aug. 6, 2014, at Burgess Hospital in Onawa, Iowa.

Services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Sioux City, with the Rev. Michael Erpelding officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. today, with family present 6 to 8 p.m. and a vigil service at 7 p.m., at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel. Online condolences may be sent to www.meyerbroschapels.com.

Leonard was born on May 21, 1944, in Mapleton, Iowa, to Joe and Twila (Hanson) Schoenherr. He worked as a welder for 37 years at American Equipment and Wilson Trailer.

He was married to Janet Flammang on Sept. 12, 1964, in Sioux City.

Leonard and Janet enjoyed going to movies and dances in their younger years. He also enjoyed fishing, watching tractor pulls and chuck wagon races. He loved spending time with family and attending his grandchildren’s activities.

He is survived by his wife, Janet Schoenherr of Sioux City; two sons, David (Jill) Schoenherr of Sioux City, and Leonard (Deanna) Schoenherr Jr. of Florida; three daughters, Kimberly (Lynn) Smith of Le Mars, Iowa, Cindy Poppema of Sioux City, and Tammy Schoenherr of Sioux City; 13 grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and a nephew, Mark.
