Hardy Coates, 67, a harness maker, died Monday in his home, 825 Cook, after an illness of six years. He had been a resident of Sioux City the last 20 years.

Christy's funeral home, 711 Myrtle, is in charge.

Mr. Coates was born in Fulton county, Illinois, December 1, 1871. He moved to Lyons, Neb., at the age of 10, where he lived 30 years before moving to Walthill, Neb., where he spent several years.

He married Maude McCabe at Lyons 42 years ago. He was a member of the Pentecostal church.

Survivors include his widow; two sons, Emery and Edgar, both of Sioux City; five daughters, Mrs. Vern Miller of Chicago, Mrs. Ira Clark of Sioux City, and the Misses Lois, Martha and Maude Coates, all of Sioux City; a brother, J. R. Coates of Omaha; two sisters, Mrs. Mary Shumway of Lyons and Mrs. Jessie Clements of Bloomfield, Neb., and four grandchildren.
