W. A. Jenkins, Milwaukee Station Master, Is
Victim of PneumoniaWilliam A. Jenkins, 71, 2412 Douglas street, a veteran employee of the Milwaukee railroad, died Tuesday morning in a Sioux City hospital following a sickness of several days of pneumonia.
Mr. Jenkins entered the employ of the Milwaukee railroad 48 years ago. He served as a conductor in passenger service from 1894 until 1930 when he became station master here. He continued in the service of the railroad until his death.
Born August 31, 1864, in Kirkville, Ia., Mr. Jenkins, with his parents, moved to Richland, S. D., when a child. Later he moved to Akron, Ia., where he remained until he entered the service of the Milwaukee line in 1888, when he moved to Sioux City.
Later Mr. Jenkins moved to Yankton where on March 25, 1896, he married Edith Ball. He lived in Yankton for 12 years, returning to Sioux City in 1909.
Mr. Jenkins was active in fraternal circles and was a member of St. John's lodge, A. F. & A. M., of Yankton; the Sioux City consistory; Abu-Bekr Shrine temple; B. P. 0. E., of Yankton and the Seattle group of Milwaukee Veteran employees.
Besides his widow, Mr. Jenkins is survived by a nephew, Zane D. Jenkins of Sioux Falls; two nieces, Miss Oda Jenkins and Miss Anna Jenkins, both of Akron, and a grandniece, Betty Zane Jenkins of Sioux Falls.
Funeral services will be held at 2 o'clock Thursday afternoon in Trinity Lutheran church. Rev. A. B. Schwertz will officiate and burial will take place in Graceland Park cemetery under the direction of the W. Harry Christy funeral home.
Landmark lodge, A. F. & A. M., will have charge of the service at the graveside with Oscar J. Hoberg, past master of the lodge, as master of ceremonies.
