21 December 2003Arthur "Mel" Quintard, 88, of Sioux City died Thursday, Dec. 18, 2003, at a Sioux City hospital following a lengthy illness.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday at Morningside Presbyterian Church, with the Rev. Roger Graf officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 1 to 8 p.m. today, with a prayer service at 7 p.m., at Christy-Smith Morningside Chapel.
Arthur "Mel" Quintard was born May 26, 1915, in Lawton, Iowa, to the late Arthur "Earl" and Bertha (Wick) Quintard. He attended Lawton school. Mel served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II, stationed at Goldsboro, N.C. He attained the rank of staff sergeant.
On Nov. 26, 1941, he was united in marriage to Frances Campbell in Merrill, Iowa. In 1955, Mel and Frances moved to Sioux City, where he worked for Fairmount Dairy, Roe Dairy and Roberts Dairy. He retired from Roberts Dairy in 1977.
Mel was a longtime member of Morningside Presbyterian Church. He was an avid bridge player and belonged to several clubs. He was a member of the Siouxland Senior Center. He cherished the moments he spent with his grandchildren and spent many hours taking photos of his family and creating scrapbooks of memories.
Mel is survived by his wife, Frances; a daughter, Kay Barnes of Aurora, Colo.; a daughter and her husband, Bonnie Beermann and John Curtis of Aurora; a son and his wife, Mark and Vicki Quintard of Sioux City; and a daughter and her husband, Jeannie and Mark Peterson of Sioux City; nine beloved grandchildren, Heather (Beermann) Warne, Laura Beermann, Sharon Beermann and Nicolle Curtis, all of Aurora, Erika Quintard of Des Moines, Iowa, Kellie Anderson and Katie Anderson, both of Denver, Colo., Kim (Anderson) Oien of Watertown, S.D., and Ryan Snyder of Windsor, Colo.; three stepgrandchildren, Erik Peterson of Tallahassee, Fla., and Andy Peterson and Katie Peterson, both of Sioux City; four great-grandchildren, Taylor and Allyson Warne of Aurora, and Devin and Ethan Oien of Watertown; two sisters, Genevieve Baker of Whiting, Iowa, and Joyce Rhue of Phoenix, Ariz.; as well as nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Rita Kersenbrock; a granddaughter, Brook Quintard; a sister, Evelyn Waver; and a brother, Roy Quintard.
Pallbearers will be John Curtis, Mark Peterson, Chad Warne, Troy Sokolowski, Chris Oien and Greg Kilburn. Honorary pallbearers will be Tom Rolfs, Richard McNaughton and Gerald Erickson.
