Barbara L. Windle-Curry was born July 12, 1927, in Sioux City, the daughter of William and Bertha (Phelps) Windle. She attended school at Central High School in Sioux City.
She married Harold Curry on May 4, 1944, in Dakota City. She traveled frequently throughout the world with her husband, while he was in the U.S. Air Force.
She loved genealogy, researching her roots back to the 15th Century. She discovered her family was descended from the Xavier family, which included the family of St. Francis Xavier. Ironically, she died on the day of the feast of St. Francis Xavier. She was a volunteer in the "Gray Ladies" on the U.S. Air Force base. She was also active in several different activities that were held on the base including, a group named "Three Sparks and a Flame" for the U.S.O. She also was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution Martha Washington Chapter. The couple traveled extensively throughout the world, something she enjoyed very much.
She is survived by her husband, Harold of Sioux City; a daughter, Martha Curry of Sioux City; a son and his wife, Thomas William and Carolyn Curry of Raleigh, N.C.; two sisters, Nellie Knudson of Sioux City and Wyota Loepp of Idaho; three brothers, Charles Windles, Donald Windle and John Windle, all of Sioux City; four grandchildren, John W. Karr III and his wife, Elisha of Onawa, Iowa, Christopher Thomas Curry of Chapel Hill, N.C., Elissa Norris and her husband, Lt. James Norris, USN of Jacksonville, Fla., and Diana Marie Curry of Raleigh, N.C.; three great-grandchildren, Ryan, Liam and Molly Norris; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Brian Scott Curry; five sisters, Rosebell Engen, Annie Harris, Bertha Marie Doohen, Cora Carlson and Ruth Rezin; and two brothers, Albert and William Windle.
The family requests that flowers not be sent for the service.
