7 April 2002Marguerite F. McGuirk, 92, of Sioux City died Wednesday, April 3, 2002, at Holy Spirit Retirement Home.
Services will be 11 am. Monday at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, with her son, the Rev. John J. McGuirk her grandson, the Rev. John Sheehan, the Rev. David A. Hemann, Thomas J. Topf and Monsignor Michael D. Sernett officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation with family present will be 3:30 to 8:30 p.m. today, with a rosary at 4 p.m. recited by the Catholic Daughters Of America, and a parish vigil service at 7 p.m., all at Larkin Northside Funeral Home.
Mrs. McGuirk was born June 9, 1909, in Newcastle, Neb., the daughter of Joe and Mary (Doyle) Mannion. She graduated from Newcastle High School. She worked as a legal secretary in Ponca, Neb. She married Benedict V. McGuirk on June 10, 1937, in Sioux City. He died Aug. 10, 1990, in Sioux City.
She was an active volunteer at Blessed Sacrament Grade School and Parish as well as at the Bargain Center. She was a member of the Sioux City Art Center and a supporter of the Sioux City Symphony. She received a 60-year pin as a member of the Catholic Daughters. She enjoyed painting, bridge, golf and bowling.
Survivors include a sister, Joanna Marron of Newcastle; four daughters, Rosemary Sheehan and her husband, Jim of Dakota Dunes, Macrine Sudheck and her husband, Bob of Eden Prairie, Minn., Sister Margaret McGuirk of the Dominican Congregation of Sinsinawa, Wis., and. Joanna Lindberg and her husband, Larry of Omaha, Neb.; two sons, Paul McGuirk and his wife, Mary of Sioux City, and the Rev. John J. McGuirk of St. Patrick's in Sheldon, Iowa; nine grandchildren, the Rev. John Sheehan, Julie Sheehan-Thorsen, Robert Sheehan, Stephen Sudbeck, Aimee Sudbeck, Laura Lindberg, Ryan Lindberg, Colleen Lindberg and Kristina McGuirk; and a great-grandson, Miles Mannion Thorsen.
She also was preceded in death by a grandson, Mark Sudbeck; three sisters, Eletha Jensen, Mary Helen Agnew and Lucille Bakken; and two brothers, Louis and James Mannion.
Pallbearers will be Ryan and Larry Lindberg, Robert and James Sheehan, and Steve and Robert Sudbeck.
Memorials in her name may be directed to the Blessed Sacrament Scholarship Fund, the Heelan Scholarship Fund and Hospice of Sioux land.
