Mary K. McQuillen, 88, of Ponca, Neb., formerly of Sioux City, died Monday, July 2, 2001, at Elms Health Care Center in Ponca following a lengthy illness.

Services will be 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Ponca, with the Rev. David Liewer officiating. Burial will be in South Creek Cemetery. Visitation will be 2 to 4 p.m. today at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel in Sioux City. Visitation will resume at 9 a.m. Thursday at the church.

Miss McQuillen was born May 10, 1913, in Ponca, the daughter of James and Mary (O'Connor) McQuillen. She was raised in the Martinsburg, Neb., area and graduated from Ponca High School in 1931. She attended the National Business Training College in Sioux City.

She owned and operated a stenographic and phone service in Sioux City from 1950 to 1965. She was employed with the former city manager, Connie Bodine, and former congressman, Wiley Mayne. She retired from the Sioux City Law Library in 1968. She returned to Ponca in 1991.

She was a charter member of the Toastmistress Club and former president of the Sioux City Business and Professional Women's Club and Quota Club. She was a member of Sioux City Women's Club, where she served as corresponding secretary and second vice president.

While living in Sioux City, she was a member of Cathedral of the Epiphany Catholic Church. In Ponca, she was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church.

Survivors include three nieces, Judy L. Curry, Marjorie Stanford and Mary Jo Stevens, all of Ponca; and a nephew, John McQuillen of Nashville, Tenn.

She was preceded in death by her brother, James McQuillen.
