Charles "Chic" Adams, 83, of North Myrtle Beach, S.C., formerly of Sioux City, passed away Dec. 8, 2007, in North Myrtle Beach.

Charles was born Dec. 9, 1923, in Aberdeen, Scotland, the son of Iowa's Siouxland "Greater Architect Association" Hall of Famer, Bill Adams, former golf professional of the Sioux City Boat Club and Elmwood Golf Course.

Chic attended Morningside College, Oklahoma Baptist University and majored in agronomy at Nebraska University and Iowa State College. He was a World War II veteran, serving with the U.S. Army Air Corps. He held the position of golf professional and superintendent at the Sioux City Country Club for eight years.

He was a veteran of the Professional Golf Association Tour, Class A member of the PGA/Class AA and a lifetime member of Golf Course Superintendents Association of America. He was a member of the Professional Golf Association for more than 60 years. He was a nationally known golf architect, designer and builder, president and owner of Adams Construction Company. He had developed more than 100 golf courses throughout the U.S. and foreign countries and had personally supervised the construction of more than 68 of said golf courses with his own construction company and equipment.

Survivors include a sister, Georgia Doherty of Sun City West, Ariz.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 56 years, LaVonne, and a son, Randy.
