Gary Red Owl, 47, of Sioux City died Saturday, March 2, 2002 at a Sioux City hospital of injuries suffered in an automobile accident.

Services will be Thursday at the Community Center in Santee, Neb. Burial will be in Holy Faith Cemetery, Lindy, Neb. There will be a prayer service at 7:30 p.m. today at St. Paul's Indian Missions in Sioux City. Visitation will begin at 4 p.m. Wednesday, with a prayer service at 7:30 p.m. at the Community Center in Santee.

Arrangements are under the direction of Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel in Sioux City.

Mr. Red Owl was born Nov. 5, 1954, in Winnebago, Neb., the son of Isaac and Ada (Johnson) Red Owl Jr. He attended schools in South Sioux City. He was a longtime Sioux City resident.

He enjoyed reading, movies and bingo. He mostly enjoyed his family, children and grandchildren. He was well-known for helping children in the community.

Survivors include four sons, Jon and Gary Starr and Anthony and Marcus John, all of Sioux City; a daughter, Chelsey Starr of Sioux City; his mother, Ada Red Owl of Sioux City: four brothers, Robert and Kenny Red Owl, both of Sioux City, Dennis of Lincoln, Neb., and Ronald of Santee; a sister, Alice Rouillard of Santee; and 10 grandchildren, Tianna, Armondo, Maricia, Malia and Sophia Kissinger, Cecelia, Alerie, Skyla, Mesu Starr and Chelsey Starr Jr.

He was preceded in death by his father, Isaac Red Owl Jr.; four brothers, Larry, Clifford, Jon and George Red Owl; and a sister, Lydia Red Owl.

Pallbearers will be Jon and Gary Starr, Anthony and Marcus John, Leslie Tuttle and Ron Medina.

Honorary pallbearers will be Chris Denney, Gary and Steve Trudell, Roger, Stevie and Tommy Goodteacher.
