William C. "Chuck" Wilmott, 95, of Akron, Colorado, died at Sterling Regional Med Center in
Sterling on Sunday, February 10, 2002.

Graveside services were Wednesday, February 13, 2:00 p.m. at the Grandview Cemetery in Wray with Spellman-Schmidt in charge of arrangements.

Chuck Wilmott was born June 26, 1906, on a farm near Neola, to William C. and Lucy Mae (Wellbourn) Wilmott. He was the third child of a family of seven. When he was two he moved with his family to a farm in South Dakota. They were there five years and then moved to a farm near Oto where he grew to manhood.

He played semi-pro baseball from 1927-32 in Iowa and the Midwest. In 1936 he moved to Los Angeles, California and operated service stations and garages.

He served during W.W. II from 1942-45, most of the time in Texas. After the war he moved to Akron and was married to Teola Peterson in 1947. Chuck operated a used car lot in Akron and bought a new car agency in Wray in 1951 and sold new cars until his wife died in May, 1978, at which time he operated used car lots again.

In February, 1980, he married Hazel Knutzen and moved to her farm south of Akron.

Chuck was a member of the American Legion since 1948, and a member o the Elks Club and Rotary for several years.

Survivors include two sisters, Maxine King of Kansas City, Kansas, and Fern Eberly of Ocala, Florida, and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers; two sisters; and his wives, Theta and Hazel.
