SIOUX CITY | Alvin D. "Butch" Nielsen, 63, of Iowa City, Iowa, formerly of Sioux City, died Friday, June 21, 2013, at Windmill Manor in Coralville, Iowa.

Memorial services will held at a later date. Arrangements are under the direction of Gay and Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service in Iowa City. Online condolences may be sent for his family through the web at www.gayandciha.com.

Butch was born on Aug. 2, 1949, in Sioux City, the son of Alvin C. and Hilda (Hansen) Nielsen. He attended school in Sioux City, and worked at Iowa Beef Packers before moving to Iowa City about 30 years ago. He was employed by Goodwill Industries for many years.

He enjoyed music, the outdoors and fishing.

His family includes his daughter, Janice Townsend and her husband, Stephen of Kansas City, Mo.; three grandchildren, Cassandra, Natasha and Mikel; three sisters, Amelia K. (Trudy), Mrs. Robert (Patricia) Smith, all of Sioux City, and Mrs. Robert (Pamela) Anderson of Iowa City; and two brothers, Fred of Salem, S.D., and Roger, of Sioux Falls, S.D.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and one sister, Mrs. David (Karen) Smith
