Clement J Collins 1933 - 2008
MACHESNEY PARK, IL - Clement J. Collins, 75, of Machesney Park, died at 2:25 a.m. on Thursday, September 25, 2008, in OSF Saint Anthony Medical Center.
He was born March 25, 1933, in Danbury, IA, the son of Daniel James and Katherine Meier Collins. He was a graduate of Danbury High School and a veteran with the U.S. Marine Corps. He was united in marriage to Mary L. Boel in Rockford, IL, on September 4, 1960. He was employed by Elco Industries for 32 years, retiring in 1993.
Clem was a member of St. Bridget Church. He will always be remembered as a caring, hard-working, friendly and a devoted family man with a great sense of humor and an appreciation for simple pleasures. His favorite times were those spent with his family, especially the grandkids, watching the Cubs games and fishing up north.
Survivors include wife Mary; son Robert (Barbara) Collins of West Allis, WI; daughter Janet
Collins of Machesney Park; son Michael (Cindy) Collins of Frederick, CO; grandchildren Jacob, Allison and Katie Collins; brother Jake (Donna) Collins of Apache Junction, AZ; sisters Mary Alice Leon of La Crescenta, CA, Celine (Bob) Poynor of San Angelo, TX, and Laura (Larry) Rogge of Las Vegas, NV; sisters-in-law, Elaine, Leona and Helen Collins; brothers-in-law, good friend, Kenneth Boel and David (Patricia) Boel, both of Rockford; numerous beloved nieces and nephews; and good friends, Norman and Alice McNeal of Belvidere.He was predeceased by his parents; brothers, Lawrence, Eugene, Donald and Gerald Collins; and sister, Fern Allen.
Clem's family would like to give a special thank you to Dr. Hoskins and his staff at OSF Saint Anthony Center for Cancer Care and the staff on 3 East at OSF Saint Anthony Medical Center for all of their wonderful care.
Funeral Mass was held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, September 29, in St. Bridget Catholic Church, with the Rev. Burt Absalon officiating. Burial was in Calvary Cemetery.
Visitation was from 4 to 6 p.m. on Sunday, September 28, in Fitzgerald Funeral Home & Crematory, Riverside Chapel, 3910 N. Rockton Ave., with a rosary recited at 5:30 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Rock River Valley Blood Center.
