SIOUX CITY | Patricia M. Walsh, 83, of Sioux City, passed away on Monday, June 10, 2013, at the Holy Spirit Retirement Home after a courageous battle with cancer.

Private graveside services will be in Calvary Cemetery. There will be no visitation. Arrangements are under the direction of Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel.

Patricia was born May 28, 1930, in Philip, S.D., the daughter of William and Nora (Martin) Walsh. She grew up in South Dakota and graduated from Huron High School. She attended Mount Marty College and then obtained a B.A. degree, majoring in education from Briar Cliff College. Patricia received her masters degree in special education from the University of South Dakota.

Anyone who had the good fortune to know Pat was touched by her gentle, compassionate, and faithful approach to her relationships. Her faith was reflected in her love of teaching students at the Stephan Indian Mission, S.D. for many years, teaching in the Sioux City Public Schools, specializing in special education, and as a consultant for the visually and hearing challenged students through Western Hills Area of Education in Sioux City.

Pat was recognized for her special talents in working with special needs children, most notably receiving the Governor’s Award. The most heartfelt reward Pat felt was seeing the children respond to her loving encouragement in identifying and empowering their God-given talents and watching them thrive through the years.

Survivors include her beloved sister: Noreen " “Peg”" Wilson of Sandy, Utah; many nieces and nephews; her dearest friend, Audra; and loving pet, Skeeter.

Patricia was preceded in death by four brothers, Bernard, Hugh, William and Frank; and three sisters, Esther Walsh, Monica Wilson and Blanche Welsh.

Memorials may be directed to Holy Spirit Retirement Home.
