13 June 2013SIOUX CITY | Lester E. "Bud" Perry, 95, of Sioux City passed away Monday, June 10, 2013, at Casa de Paz Retirement Home following a lengthy illness.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, with the Rev. Craig Collison officiating. Burial will be at a later date in Graceland Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m. and a vigil service at 7 p.m., at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel.
Bud was born on Oct. 25, 1917, in Sioux City, the son of Alva and Lyda (Knepper) Perry. He grew up in Sioux City and attended Sioux City schools. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II and served in the South Pacific. He was awarded the Purple Heart Medal, Bronze Star Medal and Expert Rifleman Medal.
Bud met his future wife, Marian V. Redden, at a dance. They were married on Aug. 30, 1947, in Sioux City. Bud worked for National Biscuit Company for 35 years.
He built his own home and landscaped the yard. He enjoyed fishing, playing cards, traveling and dancing.
Survivors include his wife, Marian of Sioux City; a son, Patrick Perry and his wife, Patty of Lincoln, Neb.; nine grandchildren, Amber, Ryan, Shaun, Kim, Erin, Brian, Shannon, Patrick, and Eric; and 19 great-grandchildren.
Bud was preceded in death by his parents; and his son, Robert.
