Arlene L. Nelson, 74, of Sioux City died Wednesday, Sept. 22, 2004, in Sioux City.

Private family memorial services will be held at a later date at her home. Arrangements are under the direction of Waterbury Funeral Service in Sergeant Bluff.

Arlene was born Nov. 23, 1929, in Chasely Wells, N.D., the daughter of Reinhold and Helen (Patzer) Kroll.

She married Roy V. Welch on Dec. 21, 1952. He passed away Dec. 10, 1975. In 1978, she married Richard Nelson. He passed away in 1999.

She moved to the Sioux City area in the early 1950s. From 1953 to 1967, she worked at Hendrickson Cleaners.

She was of the Presbyterian faith. She was a loving mother and devoted wife, who had a loving gentle spirit. She enjoyed playing the guitar and singing and spent many hours painting. She will be missed by all who knew her well.

She is survived by a daughter and her husband, Debbie and Jerry Diven of Barnsdall, Okla.; a son and his wife, Roy and Lori Welch Jr. of Sioux City; two sisters, Lavern Faul and Cecilia Hursman; a brother, Raymond Kroll; five grandchildren, Amy Bjork of Denver, Colo., Andrea Derby of Sioux City, Audra Franklin of Owasso, Okla., Alanna Bjork of Barnsdall, Okla., and Coleen Malcomb of Minneapolis; and four great-grandchildren, Chandler and Jordan Derby and Simon and Stella Franklin.

She was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers; and three sisters.
