SERGEANT BLUFF -- Dennis W. Watterson, 57, of Sergeant Bluff passed away Thursday, Nov. 26, 2009, at a local hospital.

Services will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at Shepherd of Peace Lutheran Church in Sergeant Bluff, with the Rev. Timothy Schiller officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 2 to 4 p.m. Monday, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m., and a 7 p.m. prayer service, at the church. Arrangements are under the direction of Waterbury Funeral Service.

Dennis Wally Watterson was born on May 6, 1952, in Sioux City, the son of Lee and June (Carlson) Watterson. He graduated from Central High School in 1971. During 1973, he started working for MidAmerican Energy at the Port Neal substation.

On July 5, 1986, he was united in marriage to Cheryl Simonsen in Pender, Neb. Dennis enjoyed fixing older cars, riding motorcycles, attending car shows and swap meets. He was the go-to guy when family or friends needed help fixing or repairing almost anything. The past few years, Dennis and Cheryl traveled to Australia and New Zealand, and last year to Europe, visiting London, Paris and Barcelona.

Dennis is survived by his wife Cheryl; three sons, Lance Watterson and his wife April of Elk Point, S.D. Shane Malmberg of Sioux City, and Christopher Malmberg of Palm Springs, Calif.; three daughters, Michelle and her husband Jim Cooper of Salix, Iowa, Robyn Watterson of Colorado Springs, Colo., and Nikki and her husband Travis Law of Dakota Dunes, S.D.; seven grandchildren; two brothers, Randy Watterson and his wife Karen of Sioux City, and Tony Watterson of Alton, Iowa; and one sister, Connie and her husband Barry Fiscus of Jackson, Neb.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Howard in 2001.
