SIOUX CITY -- Dolores Funke, 96, of Sioux City passed away Monday, Nov. 9, 2009, at Northern Hills Assisted Living in Sioux City.

Services will be 10 a.m. Monday at St. Michael's Catholic Church. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. today, with a 4 p.m. rosary by Catholic Daughters, family present 6 to 8 p.m., and a vigil service at 7 p.m., at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel. Dolores was born in Sioux City in 1913, to Carl and Fern Dierking. She graduated from East High School in 1932. She married George Funke in 1933.

Dolores is survived by six children and their spouses, Carlene and Marty Tarnoff, Mary and Edward Karminski, Don and Caryl Funke, John Funke, Ann and Russ Kock and Richard and DarylLynn Funke; and a daughter-in-law, Nancy Funke. She is also survived by 19 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, George Funke in 1948; her son, Jim Funke; her son-in-law, Al Porreco; and grandson, Jeff Porreco.

Dolores lived a full life that is described well by the following quote, "Life's journey is not to arrive at the grave safely in a well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, totally worn out, shouting, "Wow, what a ride!"

Dolores was an avid card player especially loving the games of cribbage and bridge. She was a volunteer at the Bargain Center. She was active in the Democrat Party and Catholic Daughters.
