SIOUX CITY -- Lynn A. Lewis, 53, of Sioux City passed away of a brief illness on Thursday, Nov. 12, 2009, at the Veteran's Hospital in Sioux Falls, S.D.

Services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel, with the Rev. Merrill Muller officiating. Burial will follow the service in Memorial park Cemetery, with military honors. Visitation will be one hour prior to services Wednesday at the funeral home. A luncheon will follow the graveside service at VFW Post 1973, 2126 Court Street, Sioux City.

Lynn was born Jan. 30, 1956, in Sioux City, to William Edward and LaVonne Ann (Simmons) Lewis. Lynn attended North High School until he joined the service. He married Gail Atzenhoefer on April 2, 1983, in Sioux City.

Lynn enlisted into the U.S. Army on his 17th birthday on Jan. 30, 1973. He was a member of the 101st Airborne, 10th Special Forces, 82nd Airborne, and the 18th Airborne Corps. Lynn was a master parachutist, a parachute rigger and a jump master. He retired from the military in 1994 as sergeant first class. Lynn was a member of the VFW Sergeant Floyd Post 1973 in Sioux City.

Lynn is survived by his mother, LaVonne Ann Lewis of Sioux City; his wife, Gail Lewis of Sioux City; four sons, Paul Erwin Lewis of Sioux City, Benjamin William Lewis of Sioux City, Charles Aaron Lewis of Sioux City, and Jacob Alan Lewis of Sioux City; two brothers, David Michael Lewis of Sioux City, and Alan Lee Lewis and his wife, Connie of Sioux City; two sisters, Judy Marie Taylor of Sioux City, and Renae Elizabeth Thompkins and her husband, Marty of Sergeant Bluff; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

He was preceded in death by his father and one son, Daniel Alan Lewis.

A memorial has been established in Lynn's name.
