SIOUX CITY -- Mary Jean (Jacobs) Mercural, age 89 of Sioux City died Sunday, Nov. 8, 2009, at her residence.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Church of the Nativity in Sioux City, with the Rev. Michael Epperling officiating. Interment will follow in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation with the family present will be 6 to 8 p.m. today, with a vigil service at 7 p.m., at the church.

Waterbury Funeral Service of Sergeant Bluff is assisting the family.

Mary was born on Sept. 11, 1920, in Sioux City, the daughter of Marion and Dorcus (Brooks) Fredrickson. Mary attended Sioux City schools and graduated from East High School in 1938.

She was united in marriage to Wayne Jacobs in 1938. Wayne preceded her in death in 1973. She then married Bruno Mercural in 1979. Bruno preceded her in death in 1991.

Mary worked for a short period of time at Johnson Biscuit Company, then went to work at St. Luke's Regional Medical Center in central supply, where she worked as a technician, retiring from St Luke's in 1985.

Mary was a longtime member of Church of the Nativity. Mary enjoyed working at the Bargain Center, spending time playing cards with her friends, reading, crocheting, but she enjoyed spending time with her loving family and her wonderful grandchildren the most.

She is survived by her three sons, Wayne Jacobs of Great Falls, Mont., Jon Jacobs and his wife, Sherry of Elk Point, S.D., and Joe Jacobs and his wife Betty of Sioux City; her daughter, Margia Jacobs of Sacramento, Calif.; her 12 grandchildren; her 14 great-grandchildren; her brother, William Fredricksen and his wife, Delores of Brandon, Minn.; her sister, Katherine Huser and her husband, Art of Sioux City; and sister-in-law, Jeanette Jacobs of Davenport, Iowa.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her two husbands; her sister, Helen Anne; her brother-in-law, Leonard; and her daughter-in-law, Lynn Jacobs.

Honorary pallbearers will be her grandchildren Ethan Hopper, Amy Martinez, Preston Jacobs, Clinton Jacobs, Danielle Thill, Andrew Jacobs, Andrea John, Angela Jacobs, Matthew Jacobs, Mark Jacobs, and Christina Jacobs.

The family wishes to extend special thanks to Hospice of Siouxland for their outstanding care and to Dr. Danielle Prince M.D. for caring for Mary on Saturday in her home, so that her wishes of passing in her home surrounded by her family could be granted.
