SIOUX CITY -- Paul H. Rockwell, 79, of Sioux City passed away Sunday, Nov. 8, 2009, at a Sioux City hospital.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Becker-Hunt Funeral Home, with the Rev. Mark Eldal officiating. Burial with military graveside services will be in Omaha Valley Cemetery, rural Homer, Neb. Following the graveside service, a lunch will be served at the American Legion Hall in Homer. Visitation with the family will be one hour prior to service Thursday at the funeral home.

Paul was born Dec. 21, 1929, in Sioux City, the son of George R. and Lulu (Mennerich) Rockwell. He graduated from Homer High School in 1948. He served in the U.S. Army from July 24, 1946, and was honorably discharged Jan. 23, 1948.

He married Kathryn M. Stammer March 4, 1956, in Wayne, Neb. He was employed as a floor-covering mechanic for Carhart Lumber for a number of years. He received his master's degree from Wayne State College in 1973. He taught in the Sioux City School System for 20 years, retiring in 1991.

He was a member of the American Legion Buckland Post 97 in Homer, Neb.

Survivors include his wife, Kathryn; three sons and their wives, John and Barby of Amarillo, Texas, Damon and Renee of Des Moines and Warren and Kelly of Valentine, Neb.; two daughters and their husbands, Sylvia and Ken Patterson of Ft. Collins, Colo., and Janeanne and Kerry Kincanon of Monmouth, Ore.; a sister, Lois and her husband Gordon Biles of Long Beach, Calif.; six grandchildren, Allison, Jennifer, Tanner and Shelby Rockwell, Katelin and John Patterson; and a great-grandson, Raken Tinent.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and three brothers, George, Harlan and Frank.

Pallbearers will be John, Damon and Warren Rockwell, Milton Owens, Mark Tighe and Doug Rockwell. Honorary pallbearers will be Don Koll, Ken Dvorak and Dave Ewing.
