SIOUX CITY -- Sheryll Sue "Sherry" Andresen, 72, of Sioux City passed away Thursday, Nov. 5, 2009, at a local hospital.

Memorial services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel, with the Rev. Matthew Miller officiating. Graveside services will be 2 p.m. Saturday in Schaller (Iowa) Cemetery, with the Rev. Adam Cox officiating. Visitation with the family will be one hour prior to the service Saturday at the funeral home. Condolences may be sent online to www.meyerbroschapels.com.

Sheryll Sue Andresen was born in Sioux City on July 16, 1937. She was the oldest daughter of Henry and Geraldine (Veitch) Andresen. She grew up in Schaller, Iowa. Sherry, as she preferred to be called, graduated from Schaller High School in 1955. In the fall of 1955, she enrolled at Wayne State College in Nebraska.

After two years, she was awarded an associate degree in elementary education. She then accepted a teaching position in Galva, Iowa, where she taught elementary classes for three years. In 1960, she moved to Sioux City and taught in the elementary schools for 36 years. She attended Morningside College and graduated with a bachelor of science degree in elementary education, with minors in history and English. She retired from teaching in 1997, after 39 years.

She is survived by a sister, Beverly Sharbondy of Sioux City; four nieces and a nephew, Shelly Sharbondy and her husband, Tony Kanwar of Minneapolis, Greg Sharbondy of Hollywood, Fla., Tammy Moran and her husband, Kevin of Sioux City, Courtney Wegscheid and her husband, Scott of Greeley, Colo., and Hillary Martin of Greeley; and eight grandnieces and grandnephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and two sisters, Gwen Andresen and Jo Andresen.
