8 November 2009SIOUX CITY -- Michael Robert Kuehl, 28, of Sioux City died Friday, Nov. 6, 2009, at his residence from natural causes associated with alcoholism.
Services will be 11 a.m. Monday at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, with the Rev. Merlin Schrad officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be 5 to 8 p.m. today, with a vigil service at 7 p.m., at the church. Arrangements are under the direction of Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel. Michael was born Dec. 19, 1980, in Sioux City, the son of Patrick and Joanie (Rizk) Kuehl. He grew up in Sioux City and attended Blessed Sacrament Grade School. He graduated from Heelan High School in 1999. He attended Creighton University and the University of South Dakota.
Michael enjoyed making people laugh, music, fishing, golf, Lake Okoboji and Iowa Hawkeye football (and is a recent convert to Cyclone football as long as his brother is on the team). He also enjoyed cooking, old Pontiacs and old stuff in general. Most of all, he loved people and had a huge heart. He was selfless and generous with others, even in times when he had little. He was a fan of the "old school" and didn't care for change.
Survivors include his parents, Patrick and Joanie Kuehl of Dakota Dunes, S.D.; four brothers, Patrick David "P.D." Kuehl Jr. of Kansas City, Mo., Nick Kuehl and his wife, Gina of Dakota Dunes and Christopher and Daniel Kuehl, both of Ames, Iowa; paternal grandmother, Delphine Kuehl of Sioux City; maternal grandfather, Joseph Rizk and his wife, Jo of Sioux City; and a niece, Addison Kuehl of Dakota Dunes.
He was preceded in death by his maternal grandmother, Jeanne Rizk; and paternal grandfather, Robert Kuehl.
Pallbearers will be his brothers, P.D. Kuehl, Nick Kuehl, Christopher Kuehl and Daniel Kuehl.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established in Michael's name to aid those suffering from alcoholism.
