SIOUX CITY -- Roland G. Lundgren, 81, of Sioux City passed away Sunday, Nov. 1, 2009, at Indian Hills Nursing and Rehab Center.

Services will be 11 a.m. Thursday at First Lutheran Church, with the Rev. Alan Wicks officiating. Burial will be in Brule Creek Cemetery, rural Elk Point, S.D. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m. and a prayer service at 7 p.m., at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel.

Roland was born Aug. 21, 1928, in Elk Point, S.D., the son of Fred and Edna (Sandness) Lundgren. After graduating from Elk Point High School in 1946, he enlisted in the U.S. Army and fought in the Korean War from 1951 to 1953. After he was honorably discharged, he attended the University of South Dakota for three years.

He married Lavonne Ranum on Sept. 28, 1950, in Elk Point. He worked as an engineer for Sioux Tools for 37 years before retiring in 1993.

He was a member and past deacon of First Lutheran Church. He was a former member of the Sons of Norway, American Legion Post 1981 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 15016. He enjoyed woodworking and gardening.

Survivors include his wife, Lavonne Lundgren of Sioux City; two sons and their wives, Michael and Alice Lundgren of Sioux City and Kevin and Kia Lundgren of Sioux City; four daughters, Barbara and her husband, Dan Lee of Salix, Iowa, Gayle Parsons of Brandon, S.D., Julie Lundgren of Haven, Kan., and Karen Lundgren of Homer, Neb.; 14 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and a sister, Doris Petty of Elk Point, S.D.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Jeffrey; three brothers, Chester, Donald and Fred; and a sister, Marie.

Pallbearers will be Mike Lundgren Jr., Derrick Lundgren, Clint Parsons, Aaron Lee, Adam Lee, Ashton Lee, Austin Lee and Sam Ford.
