SIOUX CITY -- Mary Helen Stultz, 84, of Sioux City died Sunday, Nov. 1, 2009, at Sunrise Retirement Community.

Services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at Morningside Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Home, with the Rev. Cindy Ripperger officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 4 to 6 p.m., at the funeral home. Condolences may be sent online to www.christysmith.com.

Mary Helen was born Dec. 25, 1924, in Bronson, Iowa, the daughter of William and Blanche (Hair) Lalumendre. She grew up in Bronson and attended school at Concord 4.

She married Richard John Stultz on June 14, 1943. They made their home in Sioux City. She worked as a short-order cook at the local truck stops. She had also worked at Soo Thrifty Drug Store. Richard died Dec. 24, 1980. Shortly after his death, she moved to Lawton, Iowa. Her last years were spent at Sunrise Retirement Community with her Sunrise family.

She was a member of Community Presbyterian Church in Lawton. She had been a foster mother to more than 40 children. She was a past member of Woodbury Woodies Campers Club and the Goodwill Auxiliary.

Survivors include her children and spouses, Bill and Carmen Stultz of Spain, Ken and Carolyn Stultz of Sioux City, Marie and Mike Rudder of Lawton, Iowa, Don and Mary Stultz of Sergeant Bluff, Steve and Jan Stultz of Harrisonville, Mo., John and Diane Stultz of Blue Springs, Mo., Larry Stultz of Pleasantville, Iowa, Jerry and Jody Stultz of Phoenix, Ariz., and Carol and Darrell Blanford of Sioux City; 27 grandchildren; 37 great-grandchildren; a great-great-grandchild; a brother, Don and Bonnie Lalumendre of Bronson, Iowa; and sisters, Eva Craig of Sioux City, Bertha Reed of Warrensburg, Mo., and Doris and Leon Nelson of San Antonio, Texas.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Richard; a granddaughter, Pamela Stultz; a great-grandchild, Connor Stultz; and a special friend, Carl Saltsgiver.
