SIOUX CITY -- Zoe E. Heimann, 97, of Sioux City passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Thursday, Sept. 24, 2009, at NorthPark Place Senior Living.

Memorial services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at First Presbyterian Church in Sioux City, with the Revs. Matthew Miller and Elise Neal officiating. Burial will be at a later date in Oakview Cemetery, Albia, Iowa. Visitation with the family will be one hour prior to the service Saturday at the church. A luncheon reception will follow the service Saturday at the church. Arrangements are under the direction of Nelson-Berger Northside Chapel. Zoe Elizabeth was born Aug. 13, 1912, in Albia, Iowa, the daughter of George Allen and Zora Belle (Cramer) Jenkins. She grew up in Albia, graduating from Albia High School in 1930. She graduated in 1932 with an associates of arts degree from Stephen's College in Columbia, Mo. She received her bachelor of arts degree in elementary education from the University of Iowa in 1934. She returned to Albia, where she taught elementary school for four years.

On Sept. 7, 1938, she married Verne R. Heimann in Albia. The couple returned to live in Iowa City, Iowa, for Heinie's final year of medical school. Prior to making their home in Sioux City in 1948, the couple lived in St. Louis, Mo., Knoxville, Tenn., Paris, Texas, Albia, Iowa, and Chicago, Ill. Heinie died Jan. 6, 2000, in Sioux City.

She was a longtime member of First Presbyterian Church, where she had taught Sunday School. She was involved in supporting her children's activities including Cub and Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, music lessons, sports meets and Rainbow/DeMolay to name a few. She was a member of Kappa Kappa Gamma Sorority, PEO Chapter DH, Questers Antique Club, the American Girl's Study Club and the Sioux City Country Club. She served as past president of the Woodbury County Medical Auxiliary. The couple enjoyed golfing and wintering in Florida. She had a passion for reading and learning. She followed her interest in history by traveling throughout the world.

She is survived by three children, Mary E. Linn and her husband, Jim of Coralville, Iowa, Dr. G. Allen Heimann and his wife, Dr. Margaret C. Allan of Windsor, Ontario, and Dr. William J. Heimann and his wife, Carol of Phoenix, Ariz.; five grandchildren, Katherine Brandel and her husband, Jeff, Rebecca Passavant and her husband, Mark, Dr. Matthew W. Allan, Kathryn Manson and her husband, Patrick and Margaret Heimann; two great-grandchildren, Elizabeth Brandel and Sean Brandel; and nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a brother, Dr. G. DeWayne Jenkins; two sisters, Margaret Bovenmyer and Aileen Pabst; and a nephew, Dr. Mark Pabst.
